Cast –

We will meet in the CUHS Music Room for our first read-thru  after school on Wednesday, Dec 11, 2013. We will wait for the middle schoolers to arrive before we start.

Please be prompt. You do not need to bring anything with you.

I am asking that all attend–everyone sings, and this will give you a chance to learn the gist of the show.

Nov 112013

Open auditions for all roles will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23rd from 10 AM – 1 PM and Sunday, Nov. 24th from 1 PM to 4 PM in the CUHS Music Room.

Rehearsals will commence at the beginning of January. The show opens March 28th and closes April 6th.

At the audition, you will be asked to sing part of a song from the show. If you are interested in a lead role that has solo singing parts and wish to prepare in advance, please go to the office and pick up a copy of audition music in the folder with that character’s name on it. You may select more than one.

Also, you will be asked to read from the script. There will be no advance copies for script reading.

With full staging, big cast, and live orchestra, CUHS Drama Club’s production of Guys and Dolls promises to be an exciting romp through the streets of Broadway, night clubs, missions, and a cafe in Havana, Cuba.

See you at the auditions!

Randy Schwalbe and Kit Hansen

Nov 112013

Although I was planning on continuing as the director for this year’s CUHS Drama production, I have had a change of heart and have decided to pass my directing duties to Randy Schwalbe. This was obviously a hard decision for me because I love the program, especially the people I have had the pleasure of working with, but I am confident the time is right for this change based on my own needs and the needs of the club. A primary reason for my decision is that my obligations working as an environmental scientist have increased dramatically over the past year, and I don’t see that letting up any time soon. I’m sure this comes as no surprise to many people I have talked to recently – I frequently say how busy I am at work. My career as an environmental scientist is obviously a high priority in my life because it’s how I make most of my living. However, my work is such that I have very little free time now, and what little I have is shared with family, chores, etc. It would not be fair to the program for me to fail to deliver on my commitment when my time is now so limited.

The good news is that I am leaving my directing duties in excellent hands We all know the passion and enthusiasm Randy gives to conducting the orchestra. What many may not know is that he also has extensive directing experience, the most recent being the excellent production of “Little Shop of Horrors” for Allied Arts. Randy does have the time to devote because he is fairly recently retired from his career in Los Angeles, and he has already started many of the tasks needed to prepare for the production – tasks that I have not been able to complete.

I am still planning on helping with the production in various capacities, and I will hopefully finally realize a dream I have had the last 10 productions, that is, playing trumpet in the orchestra.

The other good news is that the show selection committee has decided on this year’s production – “Guys and Dolls”. It’s a great show, one that I would eventually like to direct some day.

I would have much rather given this news to everyone in person, but the timing is such that I wanted to let as many people know as soon as possible so Randy can concentrate on his preparations.

I know you will all have a great time with Randy as your director, have no fear, he will do good by you.

Thanks a bunch, Kirk

This weekend (starting 3/15) we begin our set construction in the gym……it’s crunch time.  We will be starting with laying the floor down in the gym on Friday at 3:30pm, followed by installing the lighting, and set construction starting Saturday morning and extending through Spring Break. WE NEED HELP – ALL KINDS OF HELP. We have jobs for all trades and skill levels, including no trades and no skill levels. Please, if you have time this Fri-Sat-Sun, stop by the gym and lend a hand.
Also – some reminders regarding costumes:
1. Girls need black character shoes
2. Girls need nylons or tights that are skin colored
3. Boys need black shoes with dark socks
4. All middle school cast are wolves. This requires black pants and a plain black long sleeved t-shirt
5. If I’ve asked you to bring something specific, please bring it to the gym this weekend, or to an upcoming rehearsal
Tickets are on sale at the Cambria Chamber of Commerce. Please make all efforts to encourage your friends, family, neighbors, strangers, etc. to attend the show. Ticket sales are primarily what allow this club to go on year after year.
T-shirts will now be on sale in the gym (after Saturday).
If you have not already done so, please pay your $35 costume fee. Checks may be made payable to ‘CUHS Drama.’

Thanks very much, Kirk
